Hello and happy end of summer! As always, the Maine summer has flown by too quickly, and the first signs of fall are already creeping in. This week while walking Fred, I crunched hundreds of leaves and saw tinges of yellow and orange popping up everywhere. Right now, I’m having a hard time saying farewell to summer, but in a couple weeks, I will be ready to embrace apple picking, pumpkin carving, and the Sanderson sisters once again.

If you’ve heard us perform in the last couple years, you’ve probably heard us sing Falter by local Maine band GoldenOak. GoldenOak puts on a music festival every year called Under the Oaks, and when they invited us to come sing Falter on stage with them this year, we had to say yes! It was such an honor to step on stage with them and sing for their gracious fans.

They say you should never meet your heroes, but clearly those people have never met the members of GoldenOak. Rehearsing with them before the show, they were the kindest, most enthusiastic hosts. The festival lineup included outstanding talent, including Chase Winn, Midnight Breakfast, Lizzie No, Louisa Stancioff, Tall Heights (one of my personal favorite bands), and the fabulous headliners, GoldenOak.

During GoldenOak’s set, the band’s energy was vibrant, and their positive light bounced off every corner of the amphitheater as the summer sun set too early. The crowd could not help but get on their feet and dance to their uplifting and thought-provoking tunes. When we joined them onstage, I could not stop my face from grinning with pure joy; it was such an honor to be up there with them, sharing beautiful music. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity they gave us, and it is an experience I will never forget.

After this beautiful summer, the Pitches are itching to jump back into weekly rehearsals. Soon, we will be preparing for our fall and winter concerts, and before you know it, it will be time for our annual spring concert. If you’re eager to see us sooner than that, you’re in luck! We are performing at Porchfest this weekend, 1pm on Sunday, September 7th, at 55 Hamblet Ave in Portland. Hosted by the Deering Center Neighborhood Association, this free, family-friendly event hosts a wide range of local musicians, and we’re excited to be part of it this year!

Until next time, I hope you spend as much time as possible, soaking up the last rays of sunlight and refusing to let summer go. Fred and I certainly will be.
